Marcus Brighton, 30, of Piscataway is charged with a first- and a second-degree weapons offense; Derek A. Kines, 40, of Newark is charged with two second-degree weapons offenses; and Jibreel E. Elliott, 28, of Plainfield is charged with third-degree hindering apprehension and fourth-degree obstruction of justice in connection with the Aug. 3 shooting.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at the East Linden Avenue club shortly before 3 a.m. Shortly after, Brighton was located at a nearby medical facility with multiple gunshot wounds and transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was still hospitalized Friday.
According to a preliminary investigation, an argument between Brighton and Kines escalated until each pulled a gun and fired at each other in the parking lot of the club. Authorities say Elliot interfered with the investigation, leading to the charge against him.
Brighton had already been charged when Kines surrendered to Linden police Thursday. He was being held at the Union County jail pending an initial court appearance.
Authorities are still asking the public's help. Anyone with information is urged to contact Linden Police Department Detective Tim Hubert at 908-474-8500, Ext. 8537.
